Meet Our Finalists

Ustadh Yusuf Shah Masud
Visiting Friday, January 23 – Saturday, January 24
Ustadh Yusuf Shah Masud is a proud member of the Phoenix Muslim community. He serves as the Director of Development at Arizona Cultural Academy — the state's only K-12 Islamic school and ranked one of the top private schools in Arizona. He is also the Director of Development of Greater Arizona, the largest scholarship provider for Muslim students in the United States. In addition to serving on the boards of several local nonprofits and masajid, Yusuf is the founder of MuslimFinance.com. He has spent over a decade studying the Islamic sciences with scholars in the Bay Area and beyond. He is a certified teacher, a certified financial coach, and a graduate of Zaytuna College in Berkeley.

Hafiz Afraz Khan
Visiting Friday, January 30 – Saturday, January 31
Hafiz Afraz Khan works at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), leading legislative advocacy campaigns to build legal protections around immigration and free speech. He teaches weekly Qur'anic reflection classes at the Lighthouse Mosque and volunteers as a chaplain for incarcerated populations. Afraz is currently a seminary student at The Majlis in their Community Servants Program.
Hafiz Afraz holds a B.A. in International Relations from New York University and received his M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley in 2023.

Ustadha Reem Shaikh
Visiting Monday, February 16 – Tuesday, February 17
Ustadha Reem Shaikh, born and raised in Houston, completed the memorization of the Quran at the age of seven and later studied Arabic in Egypt. She earned a bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies from the College of Sharia at Qatar University and a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, where she also served as the Muslim Chaplain at Boston University. Additionally, Reem holds an ijazah in the 10 variant Quranic recitations and has taught at Guidance College. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD at the University of Texas in Austin, specializing in the history of Islamic fiqh.
